About this opportunity
The Naval Research Laboratory, Office of Naval Research is preparing to sole source a five-year IDIQ contract for Numerical Weather Prediction Research and Development with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), with written capability statements due within 15 days of this posting (by September 18, 2026).
The work supports the NRL's Marine Meteorology Division across three primary research branches, encompassing global and mesoscale numerical weather prediction model development, data assimilation methods, satellite data calibration and validation, machine learning applications for environmental prediction, tactical decision support products, and IT infrastructure support in hybrid cloud and on-premises environments. Specific model programs include NAVGEM, NEPTUNE, COAMPS-TC for tropical cyclone prediction, and seasonal prediction research including Madden-Julian Oscillation studies.
Place of performance is at the Naval Research Laboratory. Personnel require security clearances ranging from Secret to Top Secret/SCI depending on assignment, with facility security requirements per DD Form 254. Deliverables include monthly financial and labor reports, progress reports, software with source code, and final reports; all work products convey unlimited government rights to the Navy.
