About this opportunity
The National Cancer Institute (NCI), operating under the Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration, has issued a Notice of Intent to Sole Source a maintenance service contract. This Special Notice, posted on February 20, 2026, announces the agency's intention to award a single-source purchase order to Gatan Inc. for preventive service maintenance of specialized imaging equipment. The contract is not a request for quotations but rather a notification of the government's intent to negotiate directly with the sole identified source. The classified NAICS code 811210 (Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance) applies to this acquisition, which carries a size standard of $34 million. No competitive solicitation will be issued as part of this procurement action.
The contract objective is to secure annual preventive service maintenance for a Gatan Imaging Filter BioQuantum-K3 digital camera and associated instrumentation, including a Titan Krios high-resolution microscope and Vitrobot system. The required services encompass thorough cleaning, calibration, adjustment, inspection, and testing of all equipment per manufacturer procedures, with software updates and OEM parts included as integral components of the agreement. The anticipated period of performance runs from March 1, 2026, through February 28, 2027, with a response deadline of February 24, 2026. Eligibility is restricted to Gatan Inc., as this is a sole-source procurement; technicians performing the work must be technically certified by Gatan Inc. to service their equipment and provide guaranteed on-site response capabilities. The maintenance agreement constitutes a critical support initiative to ensure optimal operational performance of the government-owned clinical instrumentation.
