About this opportunity

The United States Army intends to solicit Mahle Powertrain, LLC to provide a concept design, analysis, and experimental validation of a novel multi-fuel ignition system for an unmanned aerial system engine. The engine must produce 25 horsepower at sea level at 5,000 revolutions per minute, weigh no more than 20 pounds, achieve a maximum brake-specific fuel consumption of 0.4 pound per horsepower-hour at its highest efficiency operating point, and operate up to an altitude of 20,000 feet, using Alcohol-To-Jet Jet Propellant 8 with a cetane number between 15 and 50. Responses to the notice of intent are due within 15 days of posting by email.

This sole source procurement has no set-aside designations. The NAICS code is 541715 and the PSC code is not specified. Mahle Powertrain, LLC is identified as the potential incumbent. No award values or budgets are included, but the requirement is for a concept design, analysis and experimental validation of a multi-fuel ignition system for future unmanned aircraft systems engines.
