The United States Army intends to solicit Mahle Powertrain, LLC to provide a concept design, analysis, and experimental validation of a novel multi-fuel ignition system for an unmanned aerial system engine. The engine must produce a maximum of 25 horsepower at sea level at 5,000 revolutions per minute, have a maximum mass of 20 pounds, achieve a maximum brake-specific fuel consumption of 0.4 pound per horsepower-hour at its highest efficiency operating point, and be capable of operating up to an altitude of 20,000 feet. The acceptable fuel is Alcohol-To-Jet Jet Propellant 8 with a cetane number ranging from 15 to 50. Responses to the notice of intent are due within 15 days of posting by email to laurice.l.bocao.ctr@army.mil.
