About this opportunity
NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) intends to sole source a procurement for a Femto Tools iX05 Femto-Indenter Extreme system, which is a specialized analytical laboratory instrument for measuring near-surface mechanical properties with high lateral resolution. The agency plans to acquire this commercial product using FAR Part 12 procedures, with statutory authority under 41 U.S.C. 1901 for other than full and open competition. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications electronically to Cory Rasnic and Nicolas Zogaib by 12:00 PM CST on February 25, 2025, with the government evaluating responses solely to determine whether to conduct a competitive acquisition. The Statement of Work specifies detailed technical requirements including multiple microforce sensing probes, a scratch testing module, low and high-temperature testing capabilities, and a comprehensive software and hardware package. NASA will assess potential vendors' ability to meet these precise technical specifications and deliver the system within the specified performance timeline.
There are no specific set-aside designations for this procurement, and the notice explicitly indicates Femto Tools AG as the intended sole source contractor. The system will be procured for a total period of performance of 20 weeks after order receipt, with delivery scheduled to NASA MSFC Building 4711 in Huntsville, Alabama. The procurement includes the primary iX05 Femto-Indenter Extreme system with force ranges from 0.1nN to 2N, multiple probe configurations, a dedicated vacuum chamber, and a comprehensive support package featuring two days of installation and training, 12-month warranty, and lifetime remote technical support. While specific award value is not detailed in the notice, the sophisticated nature of the instrument suggests a potentially significant investment. The procurement falls under NAICS category 334516 for Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing and PSC category 6635 for Physical Properties Testing and Inspection.
