About this file

This Statement of Work details NASA Marshall Space Flight Center's requirements for a Femto Tools iX05 Femto-Indenter Extreme system to measure near-surface mechanical properties at high lateral resolution. The system will be used to create property maps of material surfaces and measure local mechanical properties in space-like conditions including high/low temperatures, high strain rates, and liquid environments.

The required system includes the iX05 Femto-Indenter Extreme with force range from 0.1nN to 2N, multiple Microforce Sensing Probes with various force ranges (2N, 200mN, 20mN) and diamond tips, a scratch testing module, low-temperature module for testing down to -150C, and high-temperature probes. The package includes dedicated vacuum chamber, software suite, HP computer, 2 days of installation and training, 12 months warranty, and lifetime remote technical support. The period of performance is 20 weeks after receipt of order, with delivery to NASA MSFC Building 4711 in Huntsville, AL. The file is associated with a pre-solicitation notice indicating NASA's intent to sole source this requirement to Femto Tools AG, with capability statements due by 12:00 PM CST on February 25, 2025.

Statement of Work

Femto Tools iX05 Femto-Indenter Extreme

1. Objective/Requirements

This requirement is for the acquisition of Femto Tools iX05 Femto-Indenter Extreme for NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) to measure near-surface mechanical properties at high lateral resolution.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

The purpose of this procurement is to acquire a nanoindenter that will allow measure of near-surface mechanical properties at high lateral resolution, to create property maps of material surfaces; these maps are helpful in explaining tribological performance of these materials. A vacuum and low temperature capability will allow measurements at conditions close to those that exist in space and on the lunar surface. This will allow NASA to measure local mechanical properties in real-world conditions such as high temperatures, low temperatures, high strain rates, or in liquid environments.

The chosen contractor shall meet or exceed the following specifications:
