About this opportunity

The Air Force is announcing its intent to sole-source a $53,565.41 contract to MGX Equipment Services for repair of a 60-ton Grove crane at Malmstrom Air Force Base, with responses due by September 25, 2026, at 2:00 PM MDT. This is a sole-source action; however, all responsible sources may submit quotations or capability statements providing clear and convincing evidence that competition would benefit the government. The 819th Red Horse Squadron requires the crane—currently inoperable due to a hydraulic leak—to undergo major drive-train disassembly, replacement of a 5-port hydraulic swivel manifold assembly, and replacement of wire rope, o-rings, fill cap with breather, element, lock pin, seal kit, and slip ring assembly to achieve full certification. Repairs must comply with OEM specifications per Technical Order 36-1-191 and are beyond organic vehicle management capability; specialized Grove technician structural inspections are required. MGX Equipment Services, the only authorized Grove dealer in Montana with qualified capabilities, operates a repair facility in Billings. The contract encompasses parts, consumables, environmental charges, inbound and outbound crane transportation ($11,000 total), and labor ($11,000). Responses should be submitted to SSgt Will Perry at william.perry.27@us.af.mil or delivered to the 341st Contracting Squadron, 7015 Goddard Drive, Building 145, Malmstrom AFB, MT 59402-6863.

Notice text

This requirement is for 60-ton Grove crane repair services for the 819th Red Horse Squadron (RHS) at Malmstrom Air Force Base. Contractor must meet OEM specifications as identified in Technical Order 36-1-191. This asset currently has a hydraulic leak that requires major drive-train disassembly and replacement of a 5 port hydraulic swivel manifold assembly. Also, several other items (wire rope, o-rings, fill cap with breather, element, lock pin, seal kit, slip ring assembly) need to be replaced in order for the crane to be certified as fully functional. Due to the hydraulic leak, the asset can not be driven and therefor needs to be transported to the maintenance shop where it will be repaired. There is currently no trailer in inventory large enough to move the 60-ton crane. This requirement will be solicited as a sole-source action to MGX Equipement Services as they are the only known authorized dealer in the state of Montana that has the capabilities to perform the complex repairs. The contractor shall perform all tasks in accordance with the saliant characteristics document and comply with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
