About this opportunity
The Indian Health Service (IHS), part of the Department of Health and Human Services, has issued a Special Notice announcing its intent to award a sole source contract for hospital accreditation compliance services at three IHS healthcare facilities. This notice, posted on May 12, 2025, serves as public notification under FAR 5.201(b)(1)(i) regarding the government's intention to proceed with a non-competitive award. The contract, valued at approximately $11.7 million, will provide consultation and professional support to maintain Joint Commission accreditation standards and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Conditions of Participation. The IHS operates over 605 hospitals, clinics, and health stations serving approximately 2.8 million American Indians and Alaska Natives across 574 federally recognized tribes. The notice indicates that while responses are not anticipated, interested parties may submit capability information demonstrating their ability to fulfill the requirements.
The primary objective of this contract is to prevent potential disruption of direct patient care services by ensuring continued compliance with critical accreditation and certification standards at three at-risk IHS facilities. The six-month base period contract will provide hospital leadership mentoring, executive team support, organizational gap analysis, and compliance assistance across multiple areas including infection prevention, patient safety, facility safety, credentialing, and quality improvement functions. Interested contractors must submit comprehensive capability information by 5:00 PM EST on May 28, 2025, though the government reserves the right to proceed without competition based on responses received. Contractors currently providing staffing services at any of the specified facilities are explicitly excluded from consideration due to potential conflicts of interest that could impair objectivity. The contract is being pursued under FAR 6.302-2 for unusual and compelling urgency, as the facilities face risk of losing Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements if compliance issues are not addressed promptly.
