About this opportunity
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries, southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC) has published a Special Notice regarding its intent to sole source upgrades for the shadowgraph camera systems integrated with Teledyne Webb Research (TWR) Slocum G3 autonomous underwater gliders. These camera systems are used to monitor zooplankton in the offshore waters of California.
The purpose of this Special Notice is to notify the public of NOAA's requirement to upgrade the shadowgraph camera systems to support the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning tools, as well as enable classification to lower taxonomic levels, as part of NOAA's Optics Strategic Initiative group. The Special Notice is posted with a due date of August 15, 2024, and indicates that there is no set-aside for this requirement. Contractors interested in participating must be able to provide the necessary upgrades to the shadowgraph camera systems integrated with TWR Slocum G3 autonomous underwater gliders.

NOTICE OF INTENT TO SOLE SOURCE - The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries, southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC) uses shadowgraph camera system. These camera systems are integrated with Teledyne Webb Research (TWR) Slocum G3 autonomous underwater gliders. The shadowgraph camera systems are mounted to TWR gliders and used to monitor zooplankton in the offshore waters of California. Upgrades are currently required as NOAA’s Optics Strategic Initiative group now requires shadowgraph system for the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning tools and the classification to lower taxonomic levels.
