About this opportunity
The U.S. Coast Guard issued a Notice of Intent to Award a sole-source, firm-fixed-price contract to Mile 533 Marine Ways Inc. for latent hull defect remediation, with an August 28, 2026 response deadline. The award is restricted to this single contractor under FAR 6.103-1 (Only One Responsible Source) and 10 USC 3204(a)(1), with no full and open competition conducted.
The requirement addresses critical remediation of a latent hull compromise (hole) identified post-launch on a Coast Guard vessel. Scope encompasses dry-dock storage fees, procurement of long-lead specialized parts, and repair execution to restore the asset to full operational status. The total estimated value is $6,527.45, placing the procurement below the Simplified Acquisition Threshold and subject to RFO FAR Part 12 simplified procedures. Mile 533 Marine Ways, located at 748 E Goodnight Avenue, Aransas Pass, Texas, is the sole source because alternative vendors would impose unacceptable operational delays and costs through mobilization fees, towing charges, duplicative storage costs, and warranty complications. Market research and contracting officer analysis confirmed fair and reasonable pricing. The requirement falls under NAICS 336611 (Ship Building and Repairing) and PSC J020 (Maintenance, Repair, and Rebuilding of Equipment: Ships, Small Craft, Pontoons, and Floating Docks), with an SBA small business size standard of 1,300 employees.
