About this opportunity

The Indian Health Service (IHS), a component of the Department of Health and Human Services, published a Notice of Intent to Award a sole source contract on January 7, 2026, for medical gas services at the Cheyenne River Health Center in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. The contracting office is the Great Plains Area Indian Health Service (GPAIHS) located in Aberdeen, South Dakota. The sole source award is intended for Matheson Tri-Gas (UEI: FE71DET4RML7), classified under NAICS code 325120 (Industrial Gas Manufacturing) and PSC code 6835 (Medical Gases). This Notice of Intent to Award is not a request for competitive proposals but rather a statement that the government intends to award a contract to a single identified source based on the determination that only one responsible source exists and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements.

The objective of this sole source award is to ensure uninterrupted patient care by providing medical and non-medical bottled gas tanks, reserve bottles, and air filters in compliance with applicable NFPA healthcare standards for a base year plus four option years. Interested parties have until January 23, 2026, to submit responses by email in Adobe PDF format demonstrating clear and convincing evidence that competitive procurement would be advantageous to the government, cost-effective, and aligned with agency mission objectives. The Performance Work Statement specifies monthly deliveries (on the first Monday of each month) of various medical gases including oxygen, liquid nitrogen, acetylene, and argon CO2 mix, along with MERV 10 and MERV 15 pleated air filters in multiple sizes. Contractors must comply with emergency response requirements (24-hour turnaround), provide monthly inspections and reports, maintain Material Safety Data Sheets, and demonstrate verifiable references. The government retains sole discretion to determine whether to conduct a competitive procurement, and all costs associated with responding to this notice are the respondent's responsibility without government reimbursement.
