About this opportunity

The Western Area Power Administration (WAPA), a division of the Department of Energy, has issued a Special Notice of Intent to Award a Sole Source Contract for interrupter parts. This notice specifically pertains to procuring critical electrical equipment components from Southern States of Georgia under FAR 13.5 single source procurement guidelines. The contract opportunity is designated as a Total Small Business set-aside and was posted on December 16, 2024, with a response deadline of December 20, 2024. The notice explicitly states that this is not a competitive quote request, but rather a notification of WAPA's intent to issue a direct order for specific equipment parts. The procurement is related to repairing a MOBI-4 Interrupter that experienced a technical failure requiring emergency component replacement.

Contractors interested in this opportunity should understand that WAPA is seeking vendors capable of providing or reselling Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts from Southern States, specifically for electrical infrastructure components. While the notice is a sole source procurement, vendors who believe they can meet the stated requirements may submit supporting documentation demonstrating their capability and past performance. The government will review submitted responses for potential use in future acquisitions, maintaining discretion in procurement decisions. Eligible contractors should be classified under NAICS category 335931 (Current-Carrying Wiring Device Manufacturing) and prepared to provide detailed evidence of their technical capacity. The procurement is firm fixed price and focuses on specific interrupter assemblies, including line backer retrofit/upgrade packages with components such as hinge, blade, and jaw assemblies, and a motor operator. Vendors should note that the government will not be responsible for any costs incurred in preparing a response, and the ultimate decision to compete the requirement remains solely within the government's discretion.
