About this opportunity

The US Geological Survey Office of Acquisitions and Grants seeks a multi-collector noble gas mass spectrometer for delivery to Reston, Virginia, with written quotes due September 23, 2026, and anticipated award September 24. This is a Total Small Business set-aside (NAICS 334516, size standard 1,000 employees).

The instrument must simultaneously measure argon isotopes (40Ar, 39Ar, 38Ar, 37Ar, 36Ar) and neon isotopes (22Ne, 21Ne, 20Ne) in multi-collection mode, with capability to operate across the mass range of 2–100 amu for additional gas species analysis and isobaric interference corrections. Construction must be stainless steel with a minimum 20 cm radius, high-sensitivity ion source, and mass resolution of 180 or higher (600 or greater preferred). The entire analytical volume must be bakeable to 300°C with removable bakeout ovens and heaters. Mass separation shall be accomplished solely by electromagnet without zoom optics or electrostatic energy analyzers. The vendor must demonstrate pneumatically actuated pump valve(s) with electronic position indicators and documented helium leak rates. Software-controlled electromagnet and source transitions must enable routine switching between argon and neon analytical setups within one day.

Delivery is required 365 days after receipt of order. The RFQ includes four line items: the mass spectrometer itself, customs clearance, air charter transportation, and shipping and handling (quantity one each). Award will go to the lowest-priced quotation receiving an "acceptable" technical rating, defined as meeting or exceeding all salient physical, functional, and performance characteristics. Vendors must hold firm pricing for 30 calendar days, be registered at SAM.gov, and comply with Buy American Act domestic sourcing requirements, with disclosure of any foreign end products required. Amendment 0001 was issued August 18, 2026; acknowledging receipt of this amendment is mandatory prior to the deadline.
