About this opportunity
The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) intends to award a non-competitive purchase order to Carl Zeiss Microscopy for a microscope service agreement. The procurement will support the Microscopy and Imaging Core (MIC) facility and cover maintenance services for specific Zeiss microscopes, including LSM 800, LSM 880, and Axioscan.Z1 models. The contract is being pursued on a sole source basis due to Carl Zeiss Microscopy being the sole authorized service provider with proprietary access to the microscopes' technical components and specifications. The service agreement will span one year, from April 29, 2025 through April 28, 2026, and includes one annual preventative maintenance inspection, on-site service support, telephone technical support, remote diagnostics, and replacement parts performed by factory-trained field service engineers. Interested parties may submit electronic responses by March 11, 2025 at 5:00 PM ET, with the NAICS code 811210 applicable to this procurement.
The contract opportunity does not involve a specific set-aside designation and is classified under the NAICS category of Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance. The small business size standard is set at 34 Million, which provides potential opportunities for qualifying small businesses. While the exact award value is not explicitly stated, the procurement is for a comprehensive one-year service agreement covering maintenance and support for specialized microscopy equipment. The contract will be awarded directly to Carl Zeiss Microscopy without a competitive bidding process, justified by their unique technical capabilities and exclusive access to the specific microscope systems. The procurement falls under PSC category J066 for maintenance, repair, and rebuilding of laboratory instruments and equipment, indicating a specialized and technical service requirement.
