About this opportunity
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Biological Technologies Office issued a Request for Information soliciting input on emerging technologies, datasets, computational frameworks, artificial intelligence systems, and foundation models that enable multiscale reasoning across human physiology, with responses due August 20, 2026. Amendment 1 extended the original deadline from August 10, 2026.
DARPA seeks information from industry, academia, government laboratories, healthcare organizations, and non-traditional performers across six primary areas: multiscale computational models (mechanistic physiological models, digital twins, scientific machine learning, hybrid mechanistic-AI systems, and models connecting molecular through clinical outcomes); foundation models for multi-scale biology and medicine (multimodal and biological foundation models integrating omics, imaging, waveforms, and clinical records); multi-scale human physiology data resources (longitudinal datasets, multimodal monitoring datasets, imaging repositories, genomic and proteomic datasets, and critical care datasets with linked measurements across biological scales); prediction and intervention across scales (physiological forecasting, treatment-response prediction, and decision-support systems); and military and operational medicine applications (combat casualty care, hemorrhage and shock, traumatic brain injury, airway compromise, multi-organ dysfunction, sepsis, prolonged casualty care, and recovery).
Respondents must submit electronically in PDF format to bioreasoning@darpa.mil with technology descriptions including current capability and maturity level (TRL), scale integration and cross-scale reasoning capability, available human physiology datasets with subject numbers and data modalities, validation evidence and performance metrics, and identification of key gaps and risks. DARPA will not reimburse RFI response costs. The point of contact is Roozbeh Jafari, Ph.D. This RFI is solely for information gathering and planning purposes and does not constitute a formal solicitation.
