About this opportunity
The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) has awarded a $27,873,450 firm-fixed price and cost-plus-fixed-fee modification to General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) for the procurement of USMC MQ-9A Detect and Avoid System (DAAS) spares, Smart Sensor spares, and Smart Sensor A- and B-Kit procurement and installation for Initial Operational Capability (IOC) modification. This contract modification P00002 was executed under an existing delivery order and basic ordering agreement, awarded on a sole-source basis due to GA-ASI's exclusive position as the designer, developer, manufacturer, and integrator of the MQ-9A UAS system with proprietary technical data and software rights. The acquisition supports the United States Marine Corps MQ-9A "Reaper" unmanned aerial system program, specifically focusing on critical spare parts and sensor kit installations necessary for operational readiness. The sole-source justification is supported by a Class Justification and Approval that remains valid through June 26, 2028, reflecting GA-ASI's unwillingness to transfer technical data and software rights to enable competition.
