About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Materiel Command is conducting market research for a 5G cellular network solution to support communications for the Sentinel Weapon System across Malmstrom, Minot, and FE Warren Missile Fields. The Request for Information (RFI) seeks to understand potential approaches for designing, deploying, and maintaining cellular communications networks capable of transporting voice, data, and imagery at the Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) Level. The government is evaluating two primary network configurations: a public 5G network with an integrated non-public network and a private standalone non-public 5G network. Respondents must submit detailed technical approaches addressing network design, deployment, maintenance, coverage strategies, and cybersecurity compliance by May 16, 2025, at 1700 MDT. Responses are limited to 10 pages and must include comprehensive company information, NAICS codes, business size, and classification.
The current contract for Missile Field Communications is held by Northrop Grumman (contract number FA8219-20-C-0006) under the Sentinel EMD contract. There is no specific set-aside designation for this opportunity, and the government has not disclosed a specific award value or budget range. The proposed network solution will cover approximately 42,000 square miles and must comply with specific cybersecurity specifications, including NIST and Department of Defense requirements. The government may share submitted responses with support contractors, including BAE Systems and MITRE Corporation. This RFI is strictly a market research initiative and does not guarantee a future contract award, with no funds available to reimburse respondents for preparation of their submissions.

GENERAL SCOPE:
The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to gather market research information for understanding the Government’s options regarding the usage of 5G cellular Network architecture for the Sentinel Weapon System. Missile field communications are used for operational command and control (OC2) of mobile security and maintenance force personnel. Within Sentinel, OC2 for mobile forces requires a communications system capable of transporting voice, data, and imagery at the Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) Level, throughout the geographic areas of interest. The Government is evaluating modern cellular options for missile field mobile security and maintenance users.
