About this opportunity
The US Geological Survey Office of Acquisitions and Grants seeks quotations for an upright microscope system and related equipment, with quotations due July 10, 2026 at 1:00 PM ET and questions due July 7. This is a total small business set-aside; only entities registered in SAM as small businesses are eligible.
Place of performance is Auburn University, 382 Mell Street, 319 Swingle Hall, Auburn, Alabama 36849. The USGS Alabama Coop Research Unit will use the microscope for histological analyses of fish tissues, including gonads, liver, and muscle samples, to assess reproductive condition, health status, and physiological responses to environmental stressors, and for age and growth studies using otoliths, scales, and fin rays.
The microscope must be brand name or equivalent to a Nikon Eclipse Ci Upright Microscope and must include an upright configuration with encoded nosepiece, LED illumination with 60mm parfocal distance and 200mm tube lens, objectives at 2x, 4x, 10x, and 40x optimized for fluorescence microscopy, a color camera with 23.9 megapixel resolution and 6K imaging capability supporting 25mm field-of-view, and all-inclusive imaging software with single-click capture, multiple observation modes, measurement tools, annotation, batch processing, de-convolution, and noise reduction. Fluorescence hardware is not required. The procurement includes four CLINs: microscope, optics, camera, and software.
Delivery is required 45 days after receipt of order on an FOB Destination basis. Quotations must remain firm for 30 calendar days from receipt. Evaluation prioritizes price significantly above technical acceptability and past performance combined. Past performance references are not required. All quotations must be submitted as a single PDF file and must include manufacturer-provided Section 508 Accessibility Conformance Reports using VPAT Version 2.1 or later. Compliance with Buy American requirements (FAR 52.225-1 and FAR 52.225-2) is mandatory; component-level country-of-origin documentation is not required. Amendment 0001 was issued July 2. The NAICS code is 334516, Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing, and the PSC is 6640, Laboratory Equipment and Supplies. The contracting officer is Brian Baker, brian_baker@ios.doi.gov.
Notice text
The USGS Alabama Coop Research Unit has a need to purchase a new upright microscope. Microscopes are routinely used for histological analyses of fish tissues, including gonads, liver, and muscle samples, which are important for assessing reproductive condition, health status, and physiological responses to environmental stressors. Accurate staging of oocyte maturation and reproductive development often requires detailed microscopic imaging to quantify cellular structures and document developmental changes. A mounted digital camera greatly improves this process by allowing researchers to capture high-quality images with enhanced optimal correction that can be used for image analysis software, archiving, and repeatable measurements.
