About this opportunity

The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Weapons Support (Columbus) is conducting market research to identify qualified manufacturers for a long-term contract covering nine battery National Stock Numbers in Federal Supply Class 6135 (Batteries, Nonrechargeable). The procurement focuses on specialized lithium-based batteries and other nonrechargeable battery types used across multiple military platforms including F-18 aircraft, C-130 Hercules, F-15 Eagle, V-22 Osprey, B-52 Stratofortress, Los Angeles Class submarines, and ground support equipment. Qualified vendors must demonstrate manufacturing capability, adequate technical data access consistent with DoD-STD-100 standards, and compliance with strict packaging, transportation, and documentation requirements per MIL-STD-2073-1E. The government has not yet established specific evaluation criteria, as this is a sources-sought announcement preceding the formal solicitation. Interested vendors must respond to the market research questionnaire by January 14, 2026, providing details on contract preferences, production capabilities, pricing structures, and delivery constraints.

This procurement carries no set-aside designation and currently recognizes Greatbatch Ltd (CAGE Code 62713) as the approved manufacturer for all nine NSNs, with specific part numbers and technical specifications detailed in the attachments. Annual demand quantities vary significantly across the nine NSNs, ranging from 24 to 8,493 units, indicating substantial volume potential for qualified suppliers. The government is exploring a three-year base contract period with optional renewal years and is seeking vendor input on pricing structures, including firm fixed-price options with potential escalation or economic price adjustment clauses. While specific contract values have not been disclosed in the pre-solicitation notice, the diversity of military applications and annual demand volumes suggest a multi-year contract of considerable value. The formal solicitation will be synopsized separately after the government completes its market research analysis and acquisition strategy development based on vendor responses received by the January 14 deadline.
