About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Nuclear Weapons Center published this Limited/Sole Source Justification Notice for a 3D scanner support care plan for the Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB) Metals Technology shop's Creaform HandySCAN 3D BLACK series scanner (Serial Number 9272947). The $36,850 contract provides a comprehensive 5-year maintenance and support plan including asset insurance, personnel training, calibration services, software updates for three scanning programs (VX Scan, VX Model, and VX Inspect), and compatibility support for the shop's CNC machines, waterjet, and 3D printer equipment. The Air Force justified the sole source procurement by identifying Creaform USA Inc. as the exclusive manufacturer and distributor of the required products and services, noting that alternative 3D scanning solutions would cause significant operational delays of 3-5 years. Despite posting a Sources Sought notice on SAM.gov in July 2025 and conducting outreach to three small businesses in August 2025, no viable alternative vendors responded or submitted capability statements. The contract was awarded on September 26, 2025, under contract number FA940125P0072, though the specific vendor name was not disclosed in the public notice.
