About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), specifically the Aleda E. Lutz facility's Facilities Management Services in Saginaw, Michigan, has published a Special Notice announcing its intent to sole source a preventative maintenance and service agreement for Dornier Genesis Urology Tables. The VA intends to negotiate exclusively with Dornier MedTech America, Inc., located in Kennesaw, Georgia, for maintenance services on government-owned medical equipment. This sole source procurement is justified under FAR 6.302.1, which allows for single-source contracting when only one responsible source can satisfy agency requirements. The contract falls under NAICS Code 811210 for Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance and PSC Code J065 for maintenance and repair of medical equipment. The notice was posted on September 26, 2025, with a tight response window for any interested parties.
The primary purpose of this sole source procurement is to ensure proper maintenance of specialized urology equipment while maintaining manufacturer warranties and operational standards. The VA has determined that Dornier MedTech America is uniquely qualified as the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) with certified technicians capable of servicing the equipment according to NFPA, OSHA, ISO 9001:2008, and OEM specifications. Interested parties must submit responses via email to Michele Bartelt at Michele.Bartelt@va.gov by 1:00 PM Eastern Time on September 29, 2025, giving contractors only three days to respond. The VA justifies this sole source approach by stating that Dornier MedTech America currently lacks certified third-party distributors, and using alternative vendors would void manufacturer warranties and create substantial cost duplication. The agency emphasizes that only this specific vendor can provide the necessary services without causing unacceptable delays or compromising equipment performance standards.
