About this opportunity
The United States Air Force, specifically ALFCMC/PZIBB at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, has published a Special Notice announcing its intent to award a sole source contract for MPU5 radio modernization equipment. This notice is not a solicitation but rather an informational announcement regarding the Air Force's intention to procure MPU5 radios, antennas, and supporting equipment from Persistent System LLC under the authority of FAR 13.1036-1(b)(1). The procurement falls under NAICS code 334220 for Radio and Television Broadcasting and Wireless Communications Equipment Manufacturing, with a business size standard of 1,250 employees. The equipment will support the 88th Air Base Wing Strategic Initiatives' tactical assault kit (TAK) command and control activities and small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) operations. The Air Force has determined through market research that Persistent System LLC is the only known business capable of providing the required smart tactical radios that integrate seamlessly with existing systems.
The primary objective of this procurement is to modernize the Wing Command and Control capabilities by establishing autonomous drone operations with video feeds to support first responders during planned events and base incidents. Any interested contractors may submit capability statements, proposals, quotations, or exceptions to the sole source approach by September 17, 2025, though the government reserves the right to proceed with the sole source award regardless of responses received. The specific requirements include 2 WR-5100 Wave Relay MPU5 radios, associated RF modules, antennas, batteries, and supporting equipment, with delivery to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base within 30 days of award. While this is structured as a sole source procurement, all responsible sources are eligible to respond and provide information that may influence the government's decision on whether to conduct a competitive procurement instead. The equipment will support various operational needs including fence line inspections, critical infrastructure protection, emergency responses, and special event support through integration with the Team Awareness Kit family of systems.
