About this opportunity

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives intends to sole-source a firm-fixed price purchase order to Bruker AXS, Inc. for two EIGER 2R 500K detector upgrade packages, with a response deadline of August 17, 2026.

ATF's Forensic Science Laboratory in Washington and Forensic Science Laboratory in Atlanta require replacement detectors for existing Bruker D8 Discover X-ray diffractometers used in explosives and trace casework. Each upgrade package includes the EIGER2 R 500K multimode detector with hybrid photon counting technology and 75-micron pixel resolution, a Bruker universal detector mount and I/O Board, a Dell computer with Windows 11, and Diffrac.MEASURE Center and Diffrac.EVA software. All components must be brand new, OEM-certified, and covered by one-year manufacturer warranty; installation by a certified Bruker technician is included. One detector will be delivered to the National Laboratory Center in Beltsville, Maryland; the second to Atlanta, Georgia. Estimated cost is $348,150 with an anticipated 25 percent discount. Delivery is required within ninety days of contract award; installation must occur within one month thereafter. Market research confirmed Bruker AXS as the sole responsible source. The procurement is conducted under RFO Part 12 (Commercial Products and Services) and RFO 6.103-1 sole-source authority. No formal synopsis or public solicitation will be issued; all communication occurs directly with the proposed contractor. The JOFOC was approved August 12, 2026.
