About this opportunity
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service has issued a Special Notice expressing its intent to award a sole source contract to the University of Illinois to assess the use of environmental DNA (eDNA) as an early detection method for aquatic invasive species. The agency intends to issue a firm fixed price purchase order to the University of Illinois in accordance with FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i).
The purpose of this effort is to evaluate the effectiveness of eDNA for detecting aquatic invasive species, assess detection probabilities, develop occupancy models, identify high-priority introduction areas, and develop an early surveillance protocol using eDNA and traditional sampling methods. The University of Illinois has been identified as the only facility that can meet the government's need, as they have the specialized equipment and expertise to analyze the complex environmental samples. Responses to this notice of proposed contract action are due by July 8, 2024, and any information submitted will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
