About this opportunity

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Technical Center has published a Special Notice announcing its intent to single-source a contract to NDT Solutions, LLC for an Automated Ultrasonic Scanning System (AUSS) Mobile System and operational training. This announcement, posted on April 22, 2026, informs industry of the FAA's basis for pursuing a non-competitive procurement rather than a full competitive solicitation. The FAA, operating under Section 3.2.2.4 of its Acquisition Management System, is providing this notice to ensure transparency regarding the agency's contracting decision. The procurement falls under NAICS Category 334519 (Other Measuring and Controlling Device Manufacturing) and PSC Category 6635 (Physical Properties Testing and Inspection).

The FAA requires the AUSS Mobile System to replace its existing Mobile Automated System (MAUS) at the William J. Hughes Technical Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in support of ongoing research and testing initiatives. The AUSS represents the next-generation successor to Boeing's MAUS unit, which has reached end of life, and offers improved capabilities including enhanced data compatibility, faster processing speeds, superior scanning and imaging quality, digitalization features, and advanced data-analysis capabilities. NDT Solutions, LLC holds the exclusive U.S. license from Boeing to manufacture and distribute the AUSS Mobile product line, making it the sole authorized provider. Interested parties may submit questions or comments to Contract Specialist Andy Montesinos at Andy.E.Montesinos@faa.gov by 5:00 PM EST on April 27, 2026, though the FAA explicitly notes that competitive solicitation is not available and will not be liable for response preparation costs.
