About this opportunity
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has announced a Special Notice for an opportunity related to In Space Production Applications (InSPA) on the International Space Station (ISS) National Lab. This opportunity is made available through the ISS NASA Research Announcement (NRA) NNJ13BG001N, under the Special Focus Area 1 "In Space Production Applications (InSPA)". The purpose of this Special Notice is to enable commercially viable and sustainable business opportunities in low-Earth orbit (LEO) that advance solutions for national interest or public benefit by leveraging the capabilities and resources of the ISS. NASA intends to make awards through this Focus Area to provide the support needed by United States non-governmental entities during early-stage development to validate game-changing materials and production processes that give U.S. industry a competitive edge amidst increasing global competition. NASA requests the submission of white papers followed by proposals (by invitation only) that focus on applications that use space to serve markets on Earth, with a specific focus on Tissue Engineering and Biomanufacturing. The anticipated white paper due date is on or about March 31, 2023, and the NAICS Code and Size Standard are 541715 - Research and Development in the Physical, Engineering, and Life Sciences (except Nanotechnology and Biotechnology) and 1,000 employees, respectively.

This notice is for InSPA Phase 1 concepts in the area of Tissue Engineering and Biomanufacturing. NASA requests the submission of white papers followed by proposals (by invitation only) that focus on applications that use space to serve markets on Earth. Proposals should demonstrate the potential of space to produce superior biomaterials and products over what can be achieved on Earth for important terrestrial applications.
A draft of the amendment to Focus Area 1 is posted for industry review and comment. Comments are requested to be submitted to the NRA Manager, Colleen Corbett, via email at colleen.corbett@nasa.gov no later than 4 pm Central time on March 1, 2023. Update #1 ·
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is announcing an opportunity for U.S. entities seeking to develop and demonstrate In Space Production Applications (InSPA) on the International Space Station (ISS) National Lab (NL). This opportunity is made available through the ISS NASA Research Announcement (NRA) NNJ13BG001N, Special Focus Area 1 “In Space Production Applications (InSPA)”, link listed in the attachments/links section.
The ISS remains the premier microgravity research and development laboratory for those seeking to develop and demonstrate technologies for in-space production of new and higher performing products for use on Earth. NASA intends to make awards through this Focus Area to enable commercially viable and sustainable business opportunities in low-Earth orbit (LEO) that advance solutions for national interest or public benefit by leveraging the capabilities and resources of the ISS. NASA intends through these awards to provide the support needed by United States non-governmental entities during early-stage development to validate game-changing materials and production processes that give U.S. industry a competitive edge amidst increasing global competition.
