About this opportunity
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center (NASA/NSSC) has issued a Special Notice for a sole source contract to procure a hydrogen peroxide generation system from HPNow APS, a company based in Denmark. The procurement is classified under NAICS Code 333248 for All Other Industrial Machinery Manufacturing and is being conducted under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i). NASA intends to award the contract directly to HPNow, identifying them as the exclusive provider of the required system and associated training. The contract is for a commercial item to be performed at NASA Johnson Space Center, with a focus on developing an innovative hydrogen peroxide generation technology for space exploration purposes.
The primary objective of this Special Notice is to acquire a hydrogen peroxide generation system capable of producing 3% by weight aqueous hydrogen peroxide at a rate of 1 liter per day using water and oxygen/air as feed streams. Interested organizations are invited to submit their capabilities and qualifications in writing to Cara Craft (Cara.s.craft@nasa.gov) by 1 p.m. Central Standard Time on May 15, 2025. The submissions will be evaluated to determine whether the procurement will be conducted on a competitive basis, with NASA retaining full discretion over the final approach. The system is intended to support extended exploration missions beyond Low Earth Orbit by providing an on-site cleaning solution that does not require regular resupply from Earth. NASA plans to receive the system by May 31, 2025 and will subsequently install it in a test facility at Johnson Space Center to evaluate its potential use in future mission destinations such as the International Space Station, Lunar Habitat, Mars Transit, or Mars Habitat.
