About this opportunity

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is conducting market research for a High-Throughput Circular Dichroism instrument system for analyzing biotherapeutics. The agency seeks a fully integrated robotic system capable of automated sample loading using 96-well plates, featuring an intense continuous light source operating from 180-1000 nm, high sensitivity detection systems including avalanche photodiodes, and the ability to measure very dilute protein samples as low as 0.05 mg/mL. Key requirements include integrated nitrogen purge and wavelength calibration systems, simultaneous CD and absorbance signal measurement, Peltier-based temperature control ranging from -10°C to 100°C, programmable automation software, and comprehensive training and warranty coverage. Interested vendors must submit responses by July 15, 2025, describing their capabilities, experience, small business status, and existing government contract vehicles, with responses limited to twelve pages in specified formatting. NIST anticipates issuing a Request for Quotation in the fourth quarter of 2025 with contract award expected in the same timeframe.

This opportunity has no set-aside designation and is open to all responsible sources, including both large and small businesses under NAICS code 334516 with a size standard of 1000 employees. No incumbent contractors or current service providers are identified in the notice, as this represents initial market research for what appears to be a new procurement requirement. The notice does not specify contract values, budget ranges, or quantities, focusing instead on identifying capable vendors and understanding market availability of the specialized analytical equipment. Companies responding must provide their socioeconomic status, previous relevant experience, and indicate whether similar items are available through existing government contract vehicles such as GSA Federal Supply Schedules or Government-wide Acquisition Contracts.
