About this opportunity

The Department of Energy Office of Science, through the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), is seeking potential subcontractors capable of providing a High Amperage (1500 VDC, 6kA) DC Bus Bar solution. The objective is to power a testbed to test electrolyzer stacks up to 6 MW. NREL requires a set of DC bus bars to independently power three electrolyzer bays each at 3 MW, with a minimum DC voltage of 1,500 Vdc and minimum DC current per bus bar of 6,000 A. The bus bars must be enclosed and gasketed to meet hazardous location requirements. Respondents are required to provide a capability statement, rough order of magnitude estimate, and estimated lead times. Responses are due by 5:00 p.m. (MST) on 6/21/2024.

This opportunity is not set aside for any specific business size or type. NREL is interested in preferred capabilities such as OSHA-approved NRTL approval, DC switches, fully encased conductors, and fireproof wall penetrations. The purpose of this Sources Sought Notice is to determine if a total small business set-aside is appropriate for a resultant RFP. No potential incumbents or current contractors are named, and no award value or budget range is provided.
