The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has issued a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) to solicit proposals for the development and demonstration of mine safety and health technologies. NIOSH seeks innovative solutions to enhance safety in mines and prevent injuries, illnesses, and fatalities for miners. Key areas of interest include personal measurement devices for respirable coal dust and crystalline silica, though other mine safety technologies will also be considered. Proposals will be evaluated on scientific and technical merit, innovation potential, and past performance, with awards made competitively to the best value offerors.
This is an open competition, not set-aside, with NAICS code 541715 (Research and Development in the Physical, Engineering, and Life Sciences) and PSC code AC26 (Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation - Engineering Services). The total available funding is approximately $2-5 million, with an estimated 6-10 awards between $200,000 and $650,000 each. The period of performance is expected to be 36 months or less, with a maximum of 48 months. The place of performance is Atlanta, GA.
