About this opportunity
NASA's Shared Services Center has issued a Special Notice for the procurement of Furnace Hot Zone and Cold Rods required for high temperature mechanical testing equipment at NASA Glenn Research Center. The notice indicates NASA's intent to award a sole source contract to OXY-GON INDUSTRIES INC of Epsom, New Hampshire, under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i) authority. The procurement falls under NAICS code 334519 for Other Measuring and Controlling Device Manufacturing and will utilize commercial acquisition procedures under FAR Parts 12 and 13. NASA has determined that OXY-GON Industries is the sole provider capable of supplying these specialized furnace components. The procurement involves modifications to an existing Oxy-Gon Camber F00201 physical test furnace system capable of operating at temperatures up to 2000°C.
The primary objective of this Special Notice is to provide interested organizations an opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities and qualifications to perform this work, potentially leading to competitive procurement rather than sole source award. Organizations must submit written responses detailing their qualifications to the designated point of contact by 12 p.m. Central Standard Time on July 18, 2025, with oral communications not being acceptable. The government will evaluate these responses solely to determine whether to conduct the procurement on a competitive basis, though the final decision remains at the government's discretion. The required components include a tungsten mesh heating element, six-layer heat shield system, water-cooled copper heater shell, and specialized cold rods, with delivery expected within 10-12 weeks after purchase order award. Any interested contractor must demonstrate capability to manufacture these highly specialized high-temperature testing equipment components that meet NASA's stringent technical requirements.
