About this opportunity
The Indian Health Service issued a Notice of Intent to Sole Source Award (75H70926BAO_050) for medical waste pickup and disposal services at Fort Peck Service Unit in Poplar and Wolf Point, Montana, with a seven-day written objection deadline of June 2, 2026. The IHS intends to award to Stericycle Inc. under FAR 6.103-1, citing the company as the only responsible source capable of providing the required services in the area based on market research.
The contract covers regulated medical waste removal and disposal from two Joint Commission-accredited health care facilities: Verne E Gibbs Health Center in Poplar and Chief Redstone Health Center in Wolf Point. The contractor must supply containers (historically 28-gallon bins), red bags, and perform biweekly collections with bin replacement for Emergency and Dental program waste at both locations. Work must comply with the Montana Infectious Waste Management Act, Montana Administrative Rules, OSHA requirements, and safety and CMMS accreditation standards. The government provides secure indoor storage locations for waste bins and grants access during pickups.
The contract period runs from October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027, with four optional renewal years. Performance locations are 107 H Street, Poplar, MT 59255, and 550 6th Avenue North, Wolf Point, MT 59201. Firms believing they can provide the service are encouraged to submit written notification within seven days of this notice's publication date. The government retains discretion to conduct competitive procurement based on information received.
