About this opportunity
The U.S. Geological Survey intends to solicit preloaded 12mm PIT tags for fish population monitoring supporting the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program, with responses to the sources-sought notice due August 4, 2026.
This is a market-research notice; no contract award will result. The procurement targets small businesses only, with a 750-employee size standard under NAICS 334419 (Other Electronic Component Manufacturing). The USGS Southwest Biological Science Center requires approximately 37,000 preloaded 12mm Passive Integrated Transponder tags compliant with ISO 11784/11785 FDX-B specifications, activated by 134.2 kHz electromagnetic fields, for riverine fish monitoring on the Colorado River and Little Colorado River.
Tags must be preloaded into injectable needles and compatible with the Government's existing Biomark PIT scanners, Biomark PIT tag guns, and autonomous antenna systems. Respondents lacking direct compatibility must provide technical data demonstrating equivalency. Base delivery is required by August 31, 2026; optional quantities are due September 10 and September 20, 2026. Work is performed in support of LTEMP requirements and biological opinion-related monitoring activities.
Interested vendors must submit a capability statement (maximum 3 pages) electronically to joel_berberena@ios.doi.gov addressing technical capabilities, compatibility documentation, lead times, support services, business size certification, and identification of any known limitations or deviations from specifications.
