About this opportunity
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), a component of the Department of Health and Human Services, has issued a Special Notice for a unique federal contract opportunity involving the procurement of advanced neurophysiological sensing technology. The notice describes a sole-source acquisition targeting the development of a Fieldline 64 Sensor system, specifically a non-invasive magneticorticography (MCoG) array. This specialized procurement is categorized under NAICS code 334510 for Electromedical and Electrotherapeutic Apparatus Manufacturing and is designated as an 8(a) Sole Source contract. The opportunity was posted on March 3, 2025, with a response deadline of March 18, 2025, and is focused on a highly technical research and development initiative.
The primary objective of this project is to build and validate an advanced MCoG array capable of collecting high-resolution neurophysiological data through non-invasive means, potentially revolutionizing brain research methodologies. The contract will be awarded to Fieldline Industries, Inc. in Boulder, CO, with a one-year performance period from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. The procurement includes 64 zero-field optically-pumped magnetometers, associated electronics, and research services for laser selection and compound gradiometer prototyping. While this is not a competitive solicitation, interested parties may submit capability statements by March 18, 2025, at 12:00 PM EST to demonstrate their potential to meet the requirements. The sole-source justification is based on Fieldline being identified as the only vendor capable of providing densely packed OPM arrays for biomedical applications, with only one other potential competitor (QuSpin) identified during market research.
Notice text
The objective of the current project is to build and validate a non-invasive magneticorticography (MCoG) array that can collect data at high temporal and spatial resolution, dramatically increasing our ability to observe human neurophysiology non-invasively, potentially transforming our study of the brain.
