About this opportunity
UNICOR, Federal Prison Industries, a component of the Department of Justice Bureau of Prisons Correctional Facilities, is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) to identify potential suppliers of fiberglass insulation and mineral board materials for office furniture manufacturing. The RFI targets three specific FPI facilities located in Coleman, FL, Forrest City, AR, and Ashland, KY, seeking suppliers capable of providing mineral board, wood fiber board, and fiberglass overlay materials with precise technical specifications. Potential suppliers must be registered in SAM.gov, possess ISO certifications, demonstrate ability to meet ANSI BIFMA standards, and provide independent testing reports. The RFI requires interested vendors to submit detailed company information and technical capabilities via email by March 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. EST, with a preliminary question submission deadline of March 12, 2025. This market research exercise is explicitly designed to gather information and will not result in an immediate contract award.
The pre-solicitation notice is designated as a Total Small Business set-aside, indicating that only small businesses are eligible to compete for the future solicitation. While no specific award value or budget range is disclosed in the current documentation, the RFI suggests that sample submissions will be required during the subsequent solicitation phase. The materials sought are categorized under NAICS code 327999 (All Other Miscellaneous Nonmetallic Mineral Product Manufacturing) and PSC code 5640 (Wallboard, Building Paper, and Thermal Insulation Materials). The technical requirements are comprehensive, including specific dimensions for mineral board (7/16" x 60" x 78"), density, strength, and fire rating specifications for wood fiber and fiberglass overlay materials. Vendors will need to demonstrate technical proficiency, manufacturing capabilities, and compliance with industry standards to be considered for potential future contract opportunities with UNICOR.
