About this opportunity
The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Engineering Research and Development Center - Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (ERDC-CERL) in Champaign, Illinois seeks to procure a fiber laser cutter to provide in-house fabrication capabilities with precision metal laser-cutting, safety equipment, and training. The agency requires equipment with rapid high precision cutting capabilities, a work area of at least 1.5m height and 3.0m width, and the ability to cut aluminum (1/4" or greater), carbon steel (3/4" or greater), stainless steel (3/8" or greater), and copper (1mm or greater). Additional requirements include fitting within a 12"x16" footprint, passing through an 11'6" wide doorway, providing comprehensive onsite training, and maintaining compatibility with existing BossLaser software systems at CERL. USACE intends to award this as a sole source purchase order to BossLaser LLC under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), citing that market research indicates BossLaser is the only company capable of meeting all specified requirements. Interested parties who believe they can fulfill these requirements may submit capability statements by August 8, 2025, to CERL-CT_Quotes@usace.army.mil for consideration.
This procurement does not utilize any set-aside designation and is classified under NAICS code 333517 (Machine Tool Manufacturing) and PSC code 3455 (Cutting Tools For Machine Tools). BossLaser LLC has been identified as the intended sole source contractor based on their EliteMax laser cutter's specific capabilities that USACE believes no other similar equipment can match. The equipment must include pipe cutting module integration capability for future needs, accommodate forklift-workpiece interactions, feature an enclosed cutting area, and operate effectively in less controlled environments typical of temporary forward operating bases. The procurement includes delivery, unloading, installation, system-level testing, researcher training, and a two-year warranty as part of the comprehensive service package. While no specific contract value is mentioned in the notice, the requirement encompasses both the equipment purchase and extensive support services including multiple training components covering system safety, machine operation, software use, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
