About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Lifecycle Management Center at Hill Air Force Base has issued a Sources Sought Synopsis for F-35 Fire Protection System (FPS) Cartridges to conduct market research and determine potential sources for procurement planning. The agency seeks to procure fire bottle cartridges (Part Number 475031, NSN 1377-01-661-0137ES) and is evaluating whether this effort can be competitive or designated as a total Small Business Set-Aside under NAICS code 325920 (Explosives Manufacturing). Interested parties must demonstrate relevant experience in engineering, manufacturing, inspection, and testing of similar F-35 FPS cartridges within the past three years. Companies must provide comprehensive profiles including employee count, office location, CAGE code, DUNS number, and small business designation status, along with descriptions of similar services provided to government and commercial customers over the past three years. The response deadline for this market research notice is October 17, 2025, with the original posting date of September 17, 2025.
This opportunity does not currently designate any set-aside status, though the government is specifically interested in responses from small businesses including 8(a), Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned, HubZone, and Women-Owned small business concerns to help determine the appropriate acquisition strategy. The NAICS code 325920 has a corresponding small business size standard of 750 employees, which will be used to evaluate small business eligibility. The procurement involves approximately 2,000 fire bottle cartridges annually, indicating this is a recurring requirement with substantial volume. Respondents are encouraged to identify potential teaming arrangements and clearly delineate the work distribution between prime contractors and teaming partners. No specific contract value or budget range has been disclosed in this pre-solicitation market research phase, and no current incumbents or existing contractors are identified in the documentation.
