About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Lifecycle Management Center at Hill Air Force Base published a Limited / Sole Source Justification Notice for the procurement of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems to be deployed at the remote Alaska location of Tin City and 15 additional Alaska radar sites. The justification restricts procurement to either Toshiba or Mitsubishi UPS systems, as these are the only manufacturers that offer PCCIE-listed systems with open-architecture accessibility that allows comprehensive lifecycle management and third-party maintenance by qualified technicians without proprietary restrictions. The geographic isolation of these remote Alaska sites necessitates UPS systems that can be serviced by third-party personnel rather than requiring manufacturer-authorized service technicians, which would be impractical and costly in such remote locations. The contract FA821721D0013 was awarded on September 15, 2025, to an unidentified vendor for an undisclosed amount, though the government file indicates an estimated cost of $199,200 for the procurement. The Air Force determined this approach ensures operational continuity and cost-effective maintenance capabilities for critical radar infrastructure in Alaska's remote locations.
Notice text
Brand specific justification is to provide UPS systems to the remote
Alaska location identified as Tin City. The geographic isolation requires UPS systems with open-architecture
accessibility for comprehensive lifecycle management. The specialized contracting arrangement necessitates UPS
systems that can be serviced by qualified third-party technicians. Only Toshiba and Mitsubishi offer PCCIE-listed and
approved UPS systems. As Toshiba and Mitsubishi are COTS items, all vendors have the ability to purchase either of
these brands.
Awarded contract FA821721D0013 to unknown vendor for unknown amount on 2025-09-15.
