About this opportunity
The Department of the Army Materiel Command Mission and Installation Contracting Command Fort Drum is seeking to procure small drone aircraft for training purposes. The drones must meet specific technical requirements including indoor flight capability, weighing less than three ounces each, and operating for six to ten minutes with radio frequency connectivity. Critical compliance requirements include manufacturing, main chip production, and assembly that cannot originate from China, along with adherence to the American Security Act and JROTC use standards. The drones must be approved and endorsed by the Aerial Drone Competition and the REC Foundation, and notably will not require camera functionality. The solicitation was posted on July 1, 2025, with responses due by July 11, 2025, providing a tight ten-day response window for interested contractors.
This opportunity is designated as a Total Small Business set-aside under NAICS code 336411 for Aircraft Manufacturing and PSC code 6910 for Training Aids. The place of performance is specified as 1st Cavalry Regiment Road, Fort Knox, Kentucky, indicating the drones will be utilized at this military installation. The solicitation notice does not specify the quantity of drones required, potential award values, or identify any incumbent contractors. The stringent manufacturing restrictions and specialized requirements for educational and training applications suggest this procurement supports military training programs that require domestically-sourced, lightweight drone technology. The compressed timeline and specific technical specifications indicate an urgent operational need for these training aids.
