About this opportunity
The Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service seeks DNA sequencing services for the Physiology and Pathology of Tree Fruits Research Center in a Request for Quotation with responses due September 18, 2026. The procurement intends single-source award and is unrestricted, permitting all responsible sources to submit quotations.
Place of performance is Wenatchee, Washington. The contract is a firm-fixed price requirements contract covering one base year and four one-year option periods (five years total). Annual requirements include 108 short-read sequencing samples (Illumina 2x300bp at 20,000 reads per sample) and 56 long-read sequencing samples (PacBio sequel at 30,000–50,000 reads per sample) with taxonomic classification against updated reference databases such as Greengenes2, NCBI, or UNITE. Contractor must deliver raw and processed sequence data within 60 calendar days of sample receipt via BaseSpace or Dropbox, with data remaining available online for at least four months. The Government retains 100% ownership of genetic samples, raw sequencing files, and downstream analysis results.
Offerors must submit pricing for all base and option period line items; failure to do so may result in rejection. Award will be made to the lowest priced, technically acceptable offeror with acceptable or neutral past performance. The NAICS code is 541380, Testing Laboratories and Services, with a $19 million small business size standard. The justification for single-source award centers on technical continuity and data reproducibility in this year-five component of a 10-year longitudinal study; maintaining the incumbent contractor (Molecular Research LP) ensures consistency across annual data collection cycles, as inter-laboratory variation in DNA sequencing procedures can produce biologically irrelevant data variations.
