About this opportunity

The Department of the Air Force Materiel Command is conducting a Request for Information on man-portable, handheld counter-unmanned systems (MPHC) capable of detecting, tracking, identifying, and defeating hostile drones, with responses due by July 31, 2026.

The Air Force seeks mature, field-ready kinetic hard-kill solutions at Technology Readiness Level 7 or higher, excluding non-kinetic approaches such as RF jamming or GNSS spoofing and sensor-only or cueing-only systems. System weight must not exceed 35 pounds and must integrate with existing DAF small arms tactics. Solutions must demonstrate a Probability of Defeat Given a Shot of 0.90 against Group 1 and Group 2 unmanned systems at effective ranges of 0 to 150 meters in daylight and 0 to 100 meters in night/low-light conditions, with engagement timelines not exceeding 10 seconds. The maximum defeat altitude is 122 meters Above Ground Level for untethered, free-flying UAS maneuvering at representative velocities up to 100 knots.

Respondents must provide empirical, documented test data including live-fire range reports, statistical modeling from physical testing, or prior U.S. Government test certifications; submissions lacking validated performance data will be deemed non-responsive. Contractors may submit standalone ammunition solutions compatible with M4, M240, and M249 weapon systems in 5.56x45 and 7.62x51 calibers, or complete integrated systems. All responses must include rough order of magnitude cost estimates based on 10-year procurement profiles and demonstrate logistics support capability with 85 percent probability of completing 180-day deployments without critical failure.

An Industry Day or Demonstration Day may follow Government evaluation of responses. The RFI is non-binding, the Government has made no procurement commitment, and all submissions become Government property.
