About this opportunity

The Department of the Navy Naval Supply Systems Command is procuring repair and modification services for aircraft ice detectors under NSN 7R-6340-014348904-KB. This is a pre-solicitation notice issued on October 23, 2025, with a response due date of December 7, 2025. The procurement requires engineering source approval from the design control activity due to the flight-critical nature of the item and the specialized manufacturing and repair knowledge required to maintain quality standards. Only previously Government-approved sources have been solicited for this opportunity, as the technical data available is not deemed adequate to support full and open competition. Prospective contractors who are not currently approved sources must submit source approval information along with their proposals, following the procedures outlined in the applicable NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support brochures for either spares or repair work.

This procurement involves no set-aside designation and is limited to approved sources due to the specialized nature of the work and data rights considerations. The contract calls for the acquisition or repair of 9 units of the detector equipment with delivery on a FOB Origin basis. The specific incumbent contractors are not identified in this pre-solicitation notice. While no explicit award value is stated in the notice, the relatively small quantity of nine units and the specialized repair nature of the work suggest a limited contract scope. Contractors seeking to qualify as new approved sources should note that the approval process typically requires significant time, and delays in obtaining source approval may impact their ability to meet contract award timelines.
