About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center, Department of Transfusion Medicine, intends to award a sole-source firm-fixed price contract to Cryo Associates for two MVE 616AF-GB FULL AUTO liquid nitrogen storage freezers/tanks. These specialized freezers are critical for storing red blood cells and unique patient samples for serologic testing. The procurement will be conducted under FAR Part 13 Simplified Acquisition Procedures, which allows single-source procurement when only one vendor can meet specific requirements. Interested parties capable of providing similar products may submit capability statements by May 22, 2025, at noon EST to Emeka Onyejekwe via email. The government retains sole discretion to determine whether to compete the proposed contract based on received responses.
The pre-solicitation notice indicates no specific set-aside designation for this procurement. Cryo Associates, located in Gaithersburg, MD, is the original equipment manufacturer and the sole recommended vendor due to their Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) certification and proprietary instrument specifications. The contract involves purchasing two liquid nitrogen storage units with associated shipping and handling, to be delivered to the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD. While no specific award value is mentioned, the procurement is for specialized laboratory equipment used in critical medical research and patient sample preservation. The equipment will support the Department of Transfusion Medicine's specific storage and testing requirements, with the government noting that alternative vendors would require extensive and costly revalidation of testing procedures.
