About this opportunity

The Louis A Johnson VA Medical Center, part of Veterans Integrated Service Network 5, is conducting a sources-sought notice to identify contractors capable of providing contingency hazardous chemotherapy compounding services, with responses due by July 10, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time. No set-aside applies.

The facility operates a single IV compounding room and requires a contingency contractor to enable hazardous compounding operations if that room becomes unavailable. Work is performed at the medical center in Clarksburg, West Virginia.

The contractor must operate an FDA 503A-compliant facility meeting USP 797 and USP 800 standards for sterile compounding, with current certifications for hood areas. All chemotherapy agents, IV tubing, closed-system drug transfer devices, and related materials are contractor-supplied. The contractor must also maintain a backup facility meeting identical criteria and provide action plans addressing certification failures or equipment malfunctions. Compounding is performed against patient-specific orders received via VA secure network or fax, with delivery required before scheduled infusion dates via courier or overnight mail at no additional government cost, including weekend deliveries. The contractor invoices based on billable units per patient. Small businesses may participate if providing at least 51 percent of services.

The period of performance runs from August 27, 2026 through August 26, 2027, with four optional one-year renewals through August 26, 2031. Contractor employees handling federal records must complete VA-provided records management training. All data and deliverables are government-owned. This is market research only; response is voluntary and does not guarantee inclusion in a subsequent formal solicitation. Responses should be submitted via email to sylvia.honesty@va.gov.
