About this opportunity

The Department of the Interior National Park Service Northeast Region is seeking a contractor to provide conservation treatment of wooden artifacts from the Upper Forge at Valley Forge National Historical Park in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. The contractor will be required to remove creosote from the artifacts without causing damage and to encapsulate and re-house them for museum storage. The solicitation is a small business set-aside with a NAICS code of 711510 - Independent Artists, Writers, and Performers. Proposals will be evaluated based on price and the contractor's past performance as a professional conservator. Questions on the solicitation are due by August 28, 2024, and quotations are due by September 4, 2024. The period of performance is September 16, 2024 to September 15, 2025.

There is no current incumbent contractor performing similar work. The park previously worked with an intern, but they are not eligible to bid on this solicitation. The National Park Service is open to in-situ treatment at the park to help reduce costs and risks. The artifacts contain creosote and potentially other hazardous materials, and the successful contractor will need to provide a comprehensive safety plan. The size and weight of the artifacts will need to be considered when choosing how they are enclosed for storage in the museum collection.
