About this opportunity
The Air Force Research Laboratory Sensors Directorate Navigation and Communication Branch has issued a Request for Information seeking industry input on developing precise timing and synchronization solutions for small Unmanned Aircraft Systems swarms operating in GPS-denied environments. The procurement focuses on capabilities that can achieve sub-nanosecond timing accuracy, continuous synchronization, and single-digit picosecond stability between UAS platforms while demonstrating resilience against electronic warfare attacks. Key requirements include scalability to at least 4 sUAS platforms, suitability for small platforms with limited payload capacity, and the ability to maintain timing coherency without GPS dependency. Industry respondents must submit white papers of maximum 5 pages addressing technical requirements such as precise timing capabilities, continuous synchronization, platform resilience, and spatial awareness enhancement. The submission deadline is 2:00 pm Eastern Standard Time on September 19, 2025, with responses to be emailed to Dr. Thao Nguyen and Mr. Richard Bailey.
This opportunity does not include any set-aside designations and is classified under NAICS code 541715 for Research and Development in the Physical, Engineering, and Life Sciences. No specific incumbent contractors or potential award values are mentioned in the documentation, as this RFI explicitly states that no funds have been authorized, appropriated, or received for this contemplated effort. The procurement relates to continuing development of AFRL's Joint Multi-INT Precision Reference VPX ruggedized prototype testbeds that incorporate Next Generation Atomic Clocks. Respondents are expected to address technology readiness levels, manufacturing capabilities, and potential market barriers as part of their technical submissions. The RFI emphasizes this is strictly a market research effort with no obligation for the government to proceed with acquisition, and responses will not be considered formal offers.
Notice text
