About this opportunity

NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center intends to issue a sole-source contract to Southwest Research Institute to conduct an 8-month investigation developing the Main Electronics Box (MEB) concept and defining electrical, thermal, mechanical, and flight software interfaces for the STRIVE (Stratosphere Troposphere Response using Infrared Vertically-resolved Light Explorer) mission payload, with capability submissions due by 12:00 p.m. Central Time on June 11, 2026.

The investigation requires the contractor to design an MEB utilizing the Sensors Unlimited 1280JSX Enclosed Camera form factor or equivalent, operating within −10°C to +50°C and accepting +28 VDC to +34 VDC input, while supporting RS-422 communications, LVDS SpaceWire for science data at 66.9 Mbps peak rate, power distribution to subsystems, 10 heater service outputs, 35 temperature sensor inputs, and 4 pulse commands for actuators. Three specifications remain to be determined: maximum and average power requirements, heater service output specifications, and temperature sensor specifications. The contractor must deliver draft MEB development schedules with Integration and Test approach, qualification testing plans, Electrical Ground Support Equipment lists, comprehensive MEB specifications, and an MEB Users Guide addressing flight software interfaces and system initialization, with initial drafts due at month two, interim drafts at month four, and final drafts at month seven. Post-completion engineering support of 4 hours per week is required, including weekly video meetings, monthly status reports, and technical interchange meetings at the contractor's facility and at Goddard. Performance occurs at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The procurement is classified as commercial items or services under FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit written capabilities and qualifications to determine whether to conduct the procurement competitively; the government reserves sole discretion to award on a competitive or sole-source basis.
