About this opportunity
NASA's Shared Services Center (NSSC) has published a Special Notice regarding the procurement of Coated Alloy GRX-810 Powder for additive manufacturing applications. The agency intends to award a sole source contract to CARPENTER ADDITIVE U.S. LLC, located in Tanner, Alabama, which has been identified as the sole provider of this specialized material. The procurement will be managed by NASA/NSSC with performance at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. This notice falls under NAICS Code 331110 (Powder Metallurgy Part Manufacturing) and will utilize commercial item acquisition procedures under FAR Parts 12 and 13. The notice was posted on January 6, 2026, and invites interested organizations to demonstrate why the procurement should not proceed on a sole source basis.
The primary objective of this Special Notice is to solicit capabilities and qualifications from organizations that may be capable of providing Coated Alloy GRX-810 Powder, allowing the government to evaluate whether a competitive procurement is appropriate. Interested contractors must submit their written capabilities and qualifications to Laura Quave, the primary point of contact, by 4:00 p.m. Central Standard Time on January 8, 2026, with no oral communications accepted. NASA requires 250 kilograms of powder meeting specific elemental composition standards, with deliverables including the powder shipment and comprehensive material certifications documenting chemistry, particle size distribution, and Hall flow test results. Contractors must comply with AI disclosure requirements per OMB memo M-25-22 if applicable to their performance. While any organization may respond, the final determination to conduct this procurement competitively remains solely within the government's discretion.
