About this opportunity

This solicitation requests quotations for chemical and mineralogical analysis services for 23 tailings samples collected from placer mines in Alaska. The U.S. Geological Survey, on behalf of the Department of the Interior, seeks to have the samples separated into size and density fractions to yield two 200-gram splits of each for analysis. Quotes are due by January 3, 2024 and must include technical qualifications demonstrating the ability to perform the required sample processing and analysis. The period of performance is estimated from February 16, 2024 to April 16, 2024. Questions regarding this solicitation are due by December 27, 2023.

This requirement has been set aside for small businesses only. The NAICS code is 541380 for testing laboratories. The solicitation is seeking chemical and mineralogical analysis of approximately 150 pounds of each tailings sample, with the samples to be separated into four size fractions and ten density fractions at the contractor's facility. The period of performance for analysis is approximately eight weeks after sample receipt. The overall objective is to assess Alaskan placer mine tailings for potential critical minerals.

Update #3 · Latest ·

Combined Synopsis-Solicitation for Chemical and Mineralogical Analysis of Tailing Samples.

The purpose of this amendment is to update Statement of Work and attach list of elements for chemistry. No additional questions may be accepted. The quote due date remains unchanged, 2/7/2024 1500PST.

The updated SOW will address the problem with the coarsest fraction. Concentrate and tails will be fine for the coarsest size fraction.

For the mineral ID, middlings and tails will be acceptable; light fractions can be returned to the USGS Project Officer, and can be submitted as the process protocol with contractor's bid.

The bid is divided into 3 parts. The separation into size fractions is primary and mandatory part of the bid. The chemistry and mineral identification options may not be achievable by all vendors and may possibly be exercised subject to cost and funding availability.

Contractors are required to sign and return copies to the issuing agency.
