About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs Technology Acquisition Center has issued a Special Notice of Intent to Sole Source for contract VA-25-00060402, intending to award a software licensing contract exclusively to Materialise USA LLC. The contract covers license renewal for Materialise Magics version 28.01 and Mimics version 26 software, along with associated upgrades and technical support services. The VA is utilizing sole source procurement authority under 41 U.S.C 253(c)(1) - FAR 6.302-1, citing that only one responsible source exists that can satisfy the agency's requirements. The software will be used for medical imaging segmentation to create patient medical models and for preparing parts and builds for various 3D printers. This procurement falls under the Custom Computer Programming Services NAICS code and was posted on May 8, 2025.
The primary objective of this sole source procurement is to maintain continuity of specialized medical modeling and 3D printing software capabilities within the VA healthcare system. The Mimics software package includes base, analysis, and design modules with floating licenses that enable segmentation of patient CT and MRI scans, accuracy verification of anatomical models, and customization of medical models with additional components. The Magics software includes multiple build processors and function modules specifically designed to import parts, process final changes, and create build files with print instructions for various 3D printer models including EOS, Trumpf, and HP systems. Interested parties have until May 16, 2025, at 2:00 PM EST to submit capabilities statements demonstrating their ability to provide equivalent services. If no viable alternative sources respond, the VA will proceed with awarding a firm-fixed-price contract exclusively to Materialise USA LLC, with Phillip Kang serving as the designated contract specialist for this procurement.
